This has shifted my entire world view.

I'm not kidding. My life has totally been rocked.

This whole time it's been incorrect to put two spaces after the end of a sentence? What? Who am I?

Curse you, Misters Miller, Wood, and Drake, for never correcting this atrocious behavior. I passed two (TWO!) AP English tests and never knew this. Two college degrees! Am I dreaming?

I am deeply shaken. To my very core. I must share this with my students, apologizing for my ignorance.

Only the craziest of crazy people know truths such as this in their bones: editors. And editors learn lots of dirty little secrets just by reading things like the Chicago Manual of Style cover to cover.

It's a blessing and a curse.

You really never knew this? I'm slightly ashamed to call you a friend right now...
Don't worry, I'll get over it.

Wow. I even took a class about typography and page design in grad school and never knew this. I've also read quite a bit of the Chicago Manual of Style and what did it get me? I don't know if I can change. Just typing this comment is throwing me off. I have to steal this article for my fb status. Aaaaaa! I just can't live like this! One space. Who would have thought?

I've been in the same boat! Let me ask you this. How many times did you have to backspace while posting this? 'Cause I had to backspace an awful lot while posting this comment.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE USE TWO SPACES!

Who even taught this practice? Where did it come from in the first place?

I'm so glad it's now being shunned publicly.
