I'd spend less on shampoo, I guess.

I'm trying to envision myself bald.

In case anyone is wondering, I am shedding like a Yeti in the tropics. (Would they shed in the tropics?) There are strands, nay, clumps, of long-ish brown hair all over the bathroom and all over my clothing. It's disgusting. I haven't lost this much hair all at once since the 8th grade when Jeff G. stepped on a large chunk of my hair before yanking me up into a swing dancing lift.

I thought myself a reasonably informed pregnant person. I thought all I had to worry about in the post partum period was the possibility of pain, bleeding, depression, physical recovery from pushing out a human being, sore nipples, pregnancy clothes that no longer fit, pre-pregnancy clothes that no longer fit, night sweats, and oh yeah, raising a baby, what with the feeding schedules, sleeping schedules, baby fingernail clipping (the HORROR!), immunizations, bathing, car seats...

You get the idea.

No one ever mentioned balding.

P.S. Liv, don't panic. I'm taking some literary license here. It's not quite that scary in real life. (Almost, though.)
P.P.S. However, baby fingernail clipping really is terrifying. And it turns out I'm a bad mom.
P.P.P.S. I'm not kidding about the balding part.

  1. Yeah, this is one of those little known areas of post-pregnancy that they really should tell you about! So here is your quick little lesson: hair goes through 3 stages of growth-the active growing phase, the resting phase and the shedding phase. Because of the hormones involved with pregnancy, most women skip the shedding phase for the duration of the pregnancy, plus a couple of months post-partum. And then, the shedding phase hits full force! So all that thick luscious hair that you grew while you were pregnant is what is falling out- I highly doubt you'll end up completely bald, but it sure does feel that way for a while! Just keep plenty of Draino on hand. :)

  2. I love your blog. It always makes me laugh. I hate the balding thing! I also hate clipping the nails. It only gets worse as they get older and can push and shove. Treyton's nails have to be pretty long before I'm willing to clip them. I know my mother-in-law loves that. :) Good luck!

  3. I'm just laughing out loud at your posts!! Try a little nail file instead of the clippers... works WAY better and NO bleeding!

This is Katie's sister Tif, by the way. :)

  4. Like it isn't bad enough that my skin is out of control? Now I have to worry about going bald so I don't even have hair to help cover up my pregnancy acne.

    Awesome!
